Welcome to the Fix Our Flag campaign!

This campaign is in no way, shape or form, meant to dishonor or disrespect any of the men and women of our armed forces. This effort is in support of them. Many members of my family have been in the military. My grandfather and I each served in the Army, my Dad was in the Navy, and my other grandfather was in the Air Force.

This effort is in response to the backward American Flag added to the Army field uniform on February 3rd of 2005 by the Secretary of the Army, General Peter J. Schoomaker, United States Army Chief of Staff, under Regulation 670-1 (chapter 28, Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia, which authorizes the wear of the reverse: side full-color U.S. Flag cloth replica on utility and organizational uniforms on a permanent basis). Unfortunately in doing this, General Schoomaker overstepped his authority while at the same time increasing the danger to our troops. Rank, insignia, and unit patches are "subdued" on camouflaged uniforms in order for our troops to remain unseen by the enemy. Incorporating a brightly colored flag on our soldiers' field uniform gives the enemy a target.

The manner in which he ordered the Flag to be displayed, the lone "reverse" side flag, is "backward" and actually a disgrace to our true American Flag. I'm sure that wasn't General Schoomaker's intent, however. He has dedicated his life to protecting and defending our nation and should never be thought less of for this mistake. The U.S. Flag Code specifies the ways in which our Flag should be handled and displayed, giving only one person authority to alter it, The President of the United States.

Our Flag is considered a living symbol of America and is known throughout the world to stand for liberty and freedom. Whether in an embassy, a hotel or book, Old Glory is recognized in an instant. It's our label, brand and logo.

Our Founding Fathers designed the Flag and outlined very clearly how it should be seen and treated. The Army's improper display of the Flag must be corrected. A backward American Flag should not be used to represent the United States for any reason, under any circumstance.

On Flag Day, June 14th, 2007 the F.O.F. campaign was launched with a Flag dedication ceremony at City Hall Plaza in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Much like an S.O.S., the F.O.F. campaign is a call for help.

Please help in restore the Flag to its proper display of prominence and glory!

We take the stars from heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity, representing our liberty.
